Our Pets

Bringing a pet into our lives can be one of the most rewarding actions. Oftentimes, if we adopt or rescue a pet, we believe and say that “we saved them.” However, after having them in our lives for just a short period of time, it becomes quite clear that the animal really saved us. The unconditional love our furry little friends provide warms our hearts with comfort, joy, and gratitude.

It is important for us to remember to give the same love, affection, and appreciation to our pets in return. When we do, it can have a profound impact on our well-being. For example, every morning when I wake up, I kiss my adorable Sophie, and I tell her that I love her and that I am thankful for her (despite her ridiculously loud snoring throughout the night). It is a wonderful way to start the day and to strengthen the bond we have.

An Unbreakable Bond

There is nothing quite like an unbreakable bond between an owner and a pet. Just a quick glance at each other can communicate more than a thousand words without a word even being spoken.

It is remarkable how quickly this bond can develop, but more importantly, the strength of that bond can undeniably create the power to heal us. The bond between an owner and a service animal can be even more powerful, especially when organizations such as K9s For Warriors or California Service Dog Academy provide service dogs for Veterans. So much amazing recovery and healing can be achieved as a result of those connections.

If you do not have a pet, then you can always volunteer some of your time at a local animal shelter. It is a win-win-win for you, the animals, and the shelter.

A Moment of Reflection

I invite you to reflect on how a pet may have had a profound impact on your life, and to be still in a moment of gratitude to allow yourself to appreciate that blessing that was bestowed upon you.
