I’ve seen countless social media posts about “hope” lately. More specifically, I’ve seen people that have been “hoping” for the best, “hoping” for change, “hoping” for the future, and even “hoping” for hope. While hope can be a starting point, my anecdotal perspective is that hope needs to grow into something more, and we have to be careful of the notion of creating false hope for ourselves.

For example, when I used to hope for something in my life, it often resulted in nothing coming to fruition. Hope created a feeling like I was trying to drive a car while in neutral. However, when I transformed that “hope” into an unwavering belief, well you guessed it… results started to appear! The truth and caveat are that even an unwavering belief does not bat 1000 percent (in the real world nobody will achieve perfection), but belief does seem to take the next step towards the desired result because it sparks necessary action and resilience within us.

So, I offer this post not to be disagreeable with those that utilize hope. If hope works for you, then by all means have at it. However, if you are like the rest of us mere mortal humans (including myself), then you may want to take heed of my experiential learning and consider transforming any hope that you may have into belief.
